1 note((Leon I have half of your reply, but I got into stuff midway and now I’m way too emotional to continue… so I’ll try to finish it tomorrow, if even then—I might just take a few days’ break completely … this really hurts…))

5 notesSchellenberg was a quaint, quiet little village, where white houses with redish-brown roofs rested atop rolling hills. It was rural living, the kind that Leon preferred, where he could spread out and let his horses roam his large property, he could hike trails, and he could ride a bike to the village store instead of drive. The houses in the village weren’t exactly cookie-cutter, but close.Leon’s home sat a top a hill away from the other houses and like the others, was white with red shutters and a reddish-brown roof. However, his home had a lovely little fence encompassing the house and garden and window boxes filled with flowers and herbs under a few of his windows. There was a large barn in the back, as well as horses roaming around a large, grassy fenced in area.
Leon spent all morning preparing his home for his friend’s visit. The house was cleaned from top to bottom. The bed in the guest room was made with clean sheets and fluffed pillows. The fridge in the cellar had two cases of cola in it and the fridge in the kitchen had one case, all chilling and awaiting Jóhannes’ arrival.
The Liechtensteiner was taking a batch of cookies out of the oven when he heard the knocks. Smiling, he set the tray down on the counter and took off the oven mitts, tossing them next to the tray. Excited, he made his way to the door, only pausing momentarily in the hall to check his hair and smooth down his apron and his shirt.
He opened the door, a bright smile on his face. “Jóhannes! You made it! It’s so good to see you again.” He moved back, opening the door wider. “Come in, come in!”
The scent of baked goods slapped him in the face as he stepped inside, startled for a moment—everything was just so clean and perfect… He’d almost wished to see a blanket unfolded or a cup sitting out. Just something to show him that Leon wasn’t so orderly in which case Jói could relax a bit and not feel so foreign.
Regardless, he slid the suitcase’s handle down after standing the luggage up to quickly embrace the other. “Yeah, somehow I did; thank you again for inviting me. I’m rather happy to see you, as well…!” The Icelander gave a shrug and a smile, adding then, “Nervous—but happy.”
He took a minute then to peer around his surroundings and try to figure where each room was as he smoothed himself out. Every decoration was again found to be spotless…A frown. “Leon, you’re going to give me Stendhal syndrome…”
The Liechtensteiner made it a point to have everything spotless when guests came over. Whether it would stay that way depended on who came over and for what amount of time. He also made it a habit of fixing baked goods for his guests, wanting to show good hospitality so that they would continue to come back to see him.
“You’re very welcome! I’m so glad you came. It’s not often that I get visitors, so it’s a great joy when I do. I can’t wait to show you everything!” He smiled at the embrace, but soon gave the other a curious look. “Nervous? Why are you nervous?”
A frown tugged at Leon’s lips. “Stendhal syndrome?” Was he doing something wrong? Maybe Jóhannes didn’t like cookies. He knew he should have made a cake. Most people preferred cake.
“Yeah—it’s this bizarre phenomena where you become overwhelmed when you see beautiful works of art, I guess,” the Nordic laughed. “Your home is unreal, though. Inside and out.” It took him even then quite a while to stop letting his eyes drift about the rooms nearby.
Jóhannes explained that he, too, was excited about this trip and had been from the start before he thanked his new friend for the opportunity and housing. “I don’t want to let my luggage just sit here though and maybe scrape your, um… spotless flooring…” A blink as he peered down and saw his reflection in the wood panels. “I also don’t want to interrupt whatever you had been doing in the kitchen so I’ll keep to myself in the guest room.”
Really, he wanted a reason to walk around and see more of the house. Maybe catch a glimpse or two of the scenery outside the windows.
Part of him wondered if this was just a very vivid dream.
Was it possible to be overly comfortable … ?
